Who this is for

Is insurance eating into your profits?

Or you have not been quoted yet, and you are bracing for it.

“Confused about insurance, compliance, or dispatching? You’re not alone, most new owners start blind and learn the hard way.”

Vonzell Simmons

This is built for you if

  • You just got your authority, or you are about to.
  • You got quoted and the number was a wake up call.
  • You are not sure what coverage you are actually required to carry.
  • The down payment is the thing standing in your way.
  • You own one truck, or a few. Not a fleet.
  • You want somebody to explain it in plain language.

Movement alone is not progress. Get the coverage right before the wheels turn.

The part nobody talks about

The premium is not what stops most owners. The down payment is.

You find a policy you can live with. Then they ask for the money up front, and it is more than you have on hand this week.

Most owners stall right there. Some go without coverage for a while and hope nothing happens.

Vonzell runs an insurance down payment assistance program. Ask about it on your call.

It is not for everyone and it is not automatic. It is a real option, and it is worth asking about before you decide you cannot start.

Why Vonzell

He worked in insurance before he ever owned a truck.

Vonzell Simmons spent years on the insurance side of this industry. Then he left it and started running box trucks himself.

That is the whole reason this works. He has sat on both sides of the desk. He knows how the policy is priced and he knows what the truck actually does all day.

Today he runs Box Truck Solutions and teaches people how to start a box truck business the right way — the authority, the truck, the compliance, the freight. Insurance is part of that, so he handles it himself.

He is not going to read you a script. He has watched people build these businesses for fifteen years and he knows what actually goes wrong.

“You don’t have to figure it out the hard way. We’ll show you how to do it right from day one.”

What we handle

Coverage for the way box trucks actually run.

What you need depends on your authority, your freight and where you run. This is the ground Vonzell covers on the call.

Auto liability

Answers for damage or injury you cause somebody else while the truck is working. Usually the first thing anyone checks on a new authority.

Physical damage on the truck

Covers the truck itself — collision, fire, theft. If there is a lien on it, the lender normally requires this and sets the terms.

Cargo

Covers the freight inside the box, not the box itself. Limits and exclusions vary more than most owners expect.

General liability

Covers the parts of the business that happen off the road, such as an injury at a dock. Some shippers ask to see it before they load you.

Non-trucking liability

Applies when the truck is being driven but is not under dispatch. You will hear it called bobtail coverage.

New authority setups

A first-year authority is looked at differently from an established one. Knowing why makes the number a lot less surprising.

Running Amazon Relay? They set their own requirements. Vonzell goes through what they ask for.

Not every coverage fits every operation. Nothing here is an offer of insurance or a quote. What you can actually get is confirmed on the call.

Straight answers

Four things people want to know before they start.

The down payment is more than I have right now.

Say that on the call. Vonzell runs a down payment assistance program and it is a real conversation, not a brush-off. It is not automatic and it is not for everyone, but it is worth asking before you decide you cannot start.

I am brand new. Nobody will touch me.

New authorities are most of what comes through here. Being new is a factor in what is available to you. It changes the conversation, it does not end it.

I do not have a CDL.

For most box trucks under 26,001 pounds you do not need one. That is a big part of why people start with a box truck in the first place.

I do not want ten agents calling me.

Your details go to one office. They are not sold on and they are not shared with a lead broker. One call, at the time you picked.

Questions

Questions we get every week.

Something else on your mind? Ask it on the call. That is what the 15 minutes are for.

What kind of insurance do I need for a box truck?

Most box truck operations come down to three things: auto liability, physical damage on the truck, and cargo.

What is actually required depends on your authority, what you haul and who you haul it for.

Vonzell has made whole videos on each of these. On the call he goes through which ones apply to you and which ones you can leave off.

How much does box truck insurance cost?

There is no honest number to put on a web page.

The price moves with your authority, your driving record, your radius, what you haul, the truck itself and the coverage you carry. Anyone showing you a flat price before they know those things is showing you a marketing number.

Insurance is one of the biggest wake up calls for new owners. 15 minutes with Vonzell on Zoom is how you find out what your real number is instead of guessing at it.

I cannot cover the down payment right now. Is there anything I can do?

Possibly. Vonzell runs an insurance down payment assistance program.

It is not automatic and it is not right for everyone, so nobody is going to tell you on a web page that you qualify.

Bring it up on the call. It is one of the more common reasons owners stall, and it is worth asking about before you decide you cannot start.

Do I need a CDL?

For most box trucks under 26,001 pounds, no. That is a big part of why people start here.

Weight, what you haul and how far you run all change the answer, and there are rules beyond the licence — DOT number, authority, hours. Vonzell goes over the ones that touch your insurance.

What does Amazon Relay require?

Amazon sets its own requirements and they can change.

In practice it comes back to auto liability, physical damage and cargo, at the limits they ask for.

Bring your Relay paperwork to the call and Vonzell goes through it line by line instead of guessing.

I just got my authority. Will anyone insure me?

Yes. New authority is one of the most common situations that comes through here.

It affects what is available to you and what it costs. Being new is a factor, not a wall.

If you are still waiting on your MC or DOT number, get on the call anyway. Knowing your number before you are live beats finding out after.

I do not have my VIN. Can I still start?

Yes. Leave it blank and keep going.

If you want to find it later, it is on the driver-side door frame, on your registration, and on the title.

Send it over before the call and Vonzell has more ready when you talk. If you do not, you still talk.

What are you going to do with my phone number?

Use it for your quote and your booking.

It is not sold to a lead broker and it is not passed to other agents.

You hear from Vonzell, and you can tell him to stop at any point.
